DENTAL ETHICS

1

Dental Ethics:Ethics is a discipline dealing primarily with moral duty, conduct, and judgment. The dentist and the practice of dentistry are controlled by many laws on the federal, state, and local level. Dental Ethics mean moral duties and obligations of the dentist towards his patients, professionals and colleagues and society. “Dentistry meetings” and Dentistry conference helps to promote the welfare and equality of human beings.

DENTAL AND ORAL HEALTH

5

Dental and Oral Health:Oral disease within different population groups can be indicated by the proportion of people within that group who have decayed, missing or filled teeth. Oral health Meeting and Dentists Meeting provide the platform to interact the Oral Practitioners.

DENTAL TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES

3

Dentistry: Tools and Techniques:Dentistry has seen massive improvements with respect to advancement from the traditional techniques to the digital world that has widened the scope of dental treatments and procedures. Dentists can now offer patients advanced choices like Laser “dentistry”, Esthetic “dentistry”, Digital dentistry and Implant dentistry. Digital dentistry tools and techniques used at present include the Laser applications, Dental implants and occlusal analysis, Forensic dentistry, Dental radiography/informatics, Robotic and digital dentistry and Imaging techniques for the craniofacial hard and soft tissues.

DENTAL ANESTHESIOLOGY

4

Dental Anesthesiology:Anaesthesia enables the painless performance of medical procedures that would cause severe or intolerable pain to an anaesthetized patient. General anaesthesia suppresses central nervous system activity and results in unconsciousness and total lack of sensation.. Dissociative anaesthesia inhibits transmission of nerve impulses between the cerebral cortex and limbic system, which inhibits both anxiety and creation of long-term memories. Conduction anaesthesia, commonly known as regional or local  anaesthesia,   blocks transmission of nerve impulses between a targeted part of the body and the spinal cord, which causes loss of sensation in the targeted body part. . There are many types of regional anaesthesia   either by injecting into the tissue itself, a vein that feeds the area or around a nerve trunk that supplies sensation to the area. The latter are called nerve blocks and are divided into peripheral or central nerve blocks. Nitrous oxide is the most commonly used inhalation Anaesthetic in dentistry and is commonly used in emergency centres and ambulatory surgery centres as well. Oral Sedation is generally given to children below 3years of age

MODERN DENTISTRY

2

Modern Dentistry Involves CAD/CAM technology helps dentists and dental lab technicians specify precise shapes and sizes for the fabrication of dental restorations, including inlays, onlays, crowns and bridges.. Some view laser dentistry as a precise and effective way to perform many dental procedures. Those who want extreme safety and comfort may choose a laser dentistry option. The potential for laser dentistry to improve dental treatment comes from the precision with which lasers can treat a specific area, the control that laser dentists have over power output and the duration of exposure on oral tissues. Sedation Modalities: The sedative methods used for sedation dentistry vary in strength and purpose. Your dentist will select the sedation dentistry option that is best for you based on the treatments performed, how long these procedures will take and your level of anxiety.  Sports dentistry involves prevention of injury to the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, through the use of properly fitted mouth guards.

ENDODONTICS

6

Endodontics:Endodontic is a dental speciality which deals with the dental pulp. Root canal therapy is one of the common procedures followed in endodontic treatments. Also includes treatment of cracked teeth and dental trauma. Endodontic treatment is done to save the teeth from diseased dental pulp. Successful Endodontic  root canal therapy depends on the elimination of the microorganism from the root canal system through the use of Diode laser  in the root canal therapy .Nickel-titanium (NiTi) Rotary files to Endodontics  almost changed the way root canal preparation are performed. Regenerative endodontics uses the concept of tissue engineering to restore the root canals to a healthy. Most  endodontists  offer tremendous flexibility in accommodating emergency cases, so delays in treatment are kept to a minimum and patients can be relieved of dental pain quickly. Many endodontists use state-of-the-art technology such as operating microscopes, digital imaging, ultrasonic instrumentation and fiber optics, to treat their patients quickly and comfortably. Today, getting root canal treatment is often no more uncomfortable than having a filling.

ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

7

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is an exciting and challenging specialty of Dentistry that combines dental, medical and surgical knowledge and skills. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the specialty of Dentistry that concentrates on the diagnosis and surgical management or treatment of diseases affecting oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (face and neck) regions, including epithelial diseases and mesenchymal disorders of soft and hard tissues. The practice of oral pathology includes research, diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical, or other examinations and management of patients. OMF surgery is unique in requiring  expertise for treatment of diseases such as head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws as well as numerous problems affecting the oral mucosa such as mouth ulcers and infections.

DENTAL NURSING

8

Dental Nursing:Dental care is important to prevent dental disease and to maintain proper dental and oral health. Oral problems, including dental and periodontal infections, dry mouth, tooth decay, are all treatable with proper diagnosis and care. Over one third of the population has no access to community water fluoridation which causes serious oral health problems. Over 108 million children and adults lack dental insurance, which is over 2.5 times of the number who lacks medical insurance. American dental attains greater significance as it has taken the concepts of promoting oral health, and preventing oral diseases.  The significant role that dentists, dental hygienists, scientists, and other health professionals of Dental events  will leads to the: safe and effective disease prevention measures exist that everyone can adopt to improve oral health and prevent disease

DENTAL HYIGENE

9

Dental hygiene is the practice of keeping the mouth and teeth clean to prevent dental problems, most commonly, dental cavities, gingivitis, caries, periodontal (gum) diseases and bad breath.  Vincent infection- a painful disease of the mouth characterized by gray ulceration of the mucous membrane, bleeding of gums, foul odor to the breath etc. Teeth cleaning are the removal of dental plaque and tartar from teeth to prevent cavities, gingivitis, gum disease, and tooth decay. Tooth decay is the most common global disease. A dental hygienist is a licensed dental professional who is registered with a dental association or regulatory body within their country of practice.

ORTHODONTICS

10

Orthodontics is a branch of “dentistry” that specializes in treating patients with improper positioning of teeth when the mouth is closed (malocclusion), which results in an improper bite. Orthodontics also includes treating and controlling various aspects of facial growth (dentofacial orthopedics) and the shape and development of the jaw. An orthodontics specialist is called an orthodontist.

An orthodontist uses a range of medical dental devices, including headgears, plates, braces, Implants, Cleft Lip and Palate etc and use the recent advances in orthodontics like invisalign techniques

11

Pediatric Dentistry:Pediatric dentists are dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. They have the experience and qualifications to care for a child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood. Pediatric dentists provide comprehensive oral health care that includes the Infant oral health exams, Pediatric Endodontics, Dental caries and Pediatric oral health research.

3

Prosthodontists are experts in the restoration and replacement of teeth – they make smiles look beautiful and function the way they should. Maxillo-facial prosthetics, Implant-based prostheses, Management of temporo-mandibular disorders, Dentures, Crowns, bridges, and full or partial dentures are just some of the procedures that can help you regain your smile and improve your appearance and self-confidence. Another option is dental implants, a more permanent solution that has improved greatly over the last ten years, thanks to the pioneering techniques of prosthodontists.

RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

16

Restorative Dentistry:A Bridge fills a space that a tooth previously occupied. Inlays and Onlays are two methods of restoring normal tooth structure after decay or other damage. Inlays and Onlays are a more conservative and less expensive option than a full Crown. Tooth-Colored fillings, also known as composites, are a fantastic alternative to silver fillings. .  Implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants are actually a small post made of metal that are placed into the bone socket where teeth are missing. The implant is covered with a replacement tooth called a crown. Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are made of acrylic resin sometimes combined with metal attachments. Complete dentures replace all the teeth; partial dentures are considered when some natural.

13

Periodontology:Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria in dental plaque. Damage from periodontal disease also can cause teeth to become loose. This is a sign of severe periodontitis (the advanced stage of disease). NECROTISING ULCERATIVE GINGIVITIS (NUG) AND PERIODONTITIS (NUP) Necrotising ulcerative gingivitis is a painful ulceration of the tips of the interdental papillae with grey necrotic tissue visible on the surface of the ulcers. GINGIVITIS is plaque-induced inflammation of the gingivae, recognised by erythema and oedema, bleeding on brushing or probing, and perhaps detachment of the gingivae from the teeth. GINGIVAL HYPERPLASIA is thickening of the gingivae due to proliferation of cells within the tissue. PERIODONTAL ABSCESS is an acute infection in a periodontal pocket is a common occurrence. People with diabetes are more likely to get periodontitis than people without diabetes.

18

Dental Practice Management and Marketing:Dental market is a rapidly growing segment with numerous products at different stages of clinical pipeline and others at different phases of industry life cycle.  Importance & Scope:

Dentistry is the branch of science devoted for maintenance and treatment of teeth, gums, and other soft and hard tissues of oral cavity and adjacent structures. Dental market is bifurcated into two segments: dental consumables and dental equipment’s. Dental consumables represent the larger segment of the dental care industry. The dental consumables segment includes crowns/bridges, implants, orthodontics, impressive materials, composites, endodontic, adhesives, and cements, while the dental equipment segment is composed of large equipment, such as autoclaves, sterilizers, chairs, communication systems, compressors, cuspidors, and digital imaging systems.

Dentistry is one of the most rewarding professions to pursue. Through education, diagnosis and treatment, dentists provide the public with an essential health service. Research is continuing to show that the link between oral health and general health is strong.

Today’s dentists do more than drill and fill patients’ teeth; they perform a wide variety of procedures and functions. Though some dentists specialize or develop expertise in particular areas, the number and range of services that dentists provide has steadily grown.

Why Dubai?

There are eight major dentistry universities, more than 200 companies and approx. 5000 dentists are in UAE. The supply of dentists per capita is higher in Dubai than in most developed countries.
